There’s the time old saying, “money can’t buy you love”. I agree you can’t buy love or happiness with money. If you get to love managing your money and get your finances in order you’ll then remove one of today’s rather large stressors that can create problems with love and happiness.
From the 1st – 7th September we have money week in NZ. There are a lot of events and seminars supporting this all over NZ and on Waiheke Island. The Budgeting centre have got involved with a public debate at the Ostend market on Sat Sept 7 – six ‘vocal locals’ debating the moot “no man should ever receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned”. They are also holding a workshop for youth at the library on Sat 31st 4.30-6.00 talking about credit, student loans, good and bad debt, Kiwisaver etc.
I would really endorse anyone with youth sending them to the workshop on Saturday 31stat the library. It can take years to recover from a bad debt situation with credit cards, motor vehicle finance, Hire purchase and youth really need to know the pitfulls and what they are paying for before they sign on the dotted line. Those moments can change their life path’s forever.
On Tuesday 2nd from 7pm – 8pm we are having a First Home Buyers seminar providing advice on buying your first home. Given the new economic climate changes that are now in the air this will be an interesting seminar for people buying now, for First Home Buyers with a longer term plan or parents wanting to get their children into their first home. This will be held at our offices opposite Gulf Sound and Vision in Ostend.
On Thursday 5th September we will be teaming up with Solar King to promote Solar Power on the island and there will be information re how to use those savings to pay off your mortgage more efficiently saving thousands. It’ll be well worth the visit and food will be provided.
Money week is a great opportunity to be more mindful with money. Put some long and short term goals in place. Write them down somewhere where you can see them on a regular basis. Review them and make sure that they are attainable goals as you are more likely to not put them on the backburner and go back to old habits. Have procedures in place so that you don’t overspend. If I’m on a budget I take a certain amount of money out with me and leave my eftpos cards at home. It’s amazing how much less you spend if you go to meetings in town with $10 in your pocket and no eftpos card.
Please take the time to attend one of the events being held on Waiheke or throughout NZ.
